Whale Watching

Joe and I went whale watching today. People in the area report there are an abundance of whales migrating in our bay, therefore it's the best time to go. We boarded the Check Mate boat courtesy of the company, Chris's Whale Watching tour, down by the Fisherman's Warf and spent 2 1/2 hours at sea. We saw some amazing blue whales and a friendly humpback whale that swam close to our boat and waved hello. It was unbelievable to be so close to an animal that big. I could have literally put my hand on the humpback whale and pet him/her.
Have you ever been?

4th of july weekend

The Carmel Mission
Point lobos (all pics below)

What a great weekend, even without fireworks!
It was the first time in a while that Joe and I got to spend some special time together and explore our new hometown.
Sat morning we went hiking at Point Lobos State Park.

Some highlights:
Saw a Sea otter
Bird Island
China Beach
Moss Trees

After that we drove into Carmel and tried to visit the San Carlos Borromeo De Carmelo Mission. The Carmel Mission has been gathering faithful people since 1771. It's stunning. Unfortunately there was a wedding going on when we went. You may visit the grounds for free when a wedding is going on, but we didn't want to be actual wedding crashers (* Note, if we were dressed a little better (we had hiking gear on) we would've considered it)

Sunday we road our bikes into the city of Monterey and went to the 4th of July festival at City Hall. It was live music with plenty of vendors. Joe and I had a 1/2 slab of ribs and yum yum yum. They were delish. The city didn't have fireworks but we had a nice time anyway.

Monday we didn't do much except hang and watch bad reality television (ever watch Real Housewives of New Jersey? God, I love it! Maybe because it's a little close to home?! haha.)
But we did walk into town later in the evening and found out that there is a farmer's market about a block up the road from our apartment every Monday. Super excited about getting fresh veggies, seafood and flowers!
Every Tuesday there is a HUGE farmer's market in Monterey. 3 1/2 City Blocks to be exact. Fresh produce, seafood, crafts and art! Might try to get a vendor's application and sell some photography

Any-who hope all is well. What did you do for the holiday?

random shots

It's sunflower season (or maybe that was last month) in New Paltz. Oh how I miss the scenery of dozens of sunflower fields driving up to the mountain. Sunflowers are by far my fav.
Took this shot in Carmel. I love the way these flowers hang.

*This little doggy either loves you or hates you (if he loves you, then entrance into Joe's grandparents house is a breeze :) Gotta give it to him, he is adorable.

It's fantastic! It's half a block from the beach *Lover's Point exactly*
F.Y.I.
Did you know that Lover's Point is named after a reference of Jesus, not a couple of romantic kids?
thanks Framer's guide book!
Our new address is 109 16th st apt #6 Pacific Grove, CA 93950 in case you feel the need to write or send us some love.

It's an old victorian home converted into 6 apartments. Our apartment is by far the best deal of the place. We have two entrances, a den, a bedroom, a living room, an amazing kitchen (with a built in table nook), bathroom and a huge back yard. We have slowly been trying to furnish it. Kind of hard when your broke, but Vintage stores rock! and so does having a Pier One credit card.

We bought an air mattress for the first night and it was by far the worst sleep we have both had. Every time Joe moved, I moved. Usually air mattresses do not bother me one bit. But maybe when two people are sleeping on it, it's trouble some.

Anyway by the luck of the California God's, Joe found a barely used California King mattress, frame and box spring with free delivery on craigslist 5 minutes away for super cheap!
The couple who was selling it were very cute. They are from Scranton PA! We made plans to cook dinner one day and maybe go sea kayaking!

What are everyone's plans for 4th of July?
In Monterey, there are no fireworks due to the budget so the only place to go in Northern Cali is San Fran (which I believe to be ridiculous, think Time's Square in NY for New Years Eve) or Lake Tahoe (which is 6 hours away and Joe is on call)
So I think we will just stay local. There is a cute town called Spreckles that puts on a 5k in the morning and a parade in the afternoon. And it's free. So that might be fun. Monterey and Pacific Grove are also putting parades on.
I was reading the news, I see that it's going to be 96 degrees in Poughkeepsie on Sunday. UGHHH! With the humidity. Good God! Keep the AC on and stay hydrated (water that is..) And don't forget about your Pets! (jeez I sound like a square..especially since I just used the term 'jeez')
miss you all!
